Colorado Gives Foundation has awarded $3 million in grants to nonprofits across Jefferson County and we are thrilled to announce these recipients.

Access to healthy, nutritious food is a foundational part of creating stable living conditions for everyone. For Jefferson County residents, addressing rising challenges in food systems is more critical than ever. A growing number of families are facing significant barriers to securing the food they need. At the heart of this effort are 68 dedicated nonprofits, each contributing their unique expertise and solutions to ensure Jeffco families have access to local, affordable, and culturally relevant food.

This effort directly promotes collective wellbeing, one of our three impact areas that we defined to support a thriving Jeffco.

Through our research we have learned that access to locally sourced, nutritious food is essential for our communities. This is why it’s important that Jeffco food producers, small food retailers and emergency food distribution networks are integrated into our solutions.

This grant opportunity was focused on four key funding areas:

  • Pantries: Helping local pantries and food producers come together to develop a systematic approach to increase access to food.
  • People: Aims to expand benefits like SNAP and WIC, and other government supported programs.
  • Procurement: Efforts to increase food supply, access and use of local food pantries for our neighbors.
  • Policy: Supports advocacy in local, regional and statewide public policy to increase food access in Jeffco.

Community initiatives are also concentrating on nourishing Jeffco students and their families. The Jeffco Schools Foundation, Conifer Rotary, Jeffco Eats and Jeffco Remote Learning are providing healthy snacks, meals and take-home food totes to students in need.

Several local organizations are taking innovative approaches to streamline the food system and reduce waste. Groups like Ag & Food Lab, HungerFreeWorld and UpRoot Colorado are working on solutions to streamline the local food system by reducing waste and increasing access for those who need it most.

These are only a few of the many organizations that are paving the way to ensure that all Jeffco residents have access to affordable, nutritious and culturally relevant food. We are proud to support their work and look forward to seeing the impact they have on our neighbors.
