Coloradans’ generosity earns national recognition
ARVADA, Colo. (April 25, 2025) – Giving back comes naturally in Colorado, and the nation is taking notice. A WalletHub study ranked Colorado the 8th most charitable state in the country — a recognition that feels right at home to the team at Colorado Gives Foundation.
As the force behind ColoradoGives.org and the creators of Colorado Gives Day, the Foundation witnesses Coloradans’ generosity daily. In 2024, the platform built to make giving easy in Colorado generated $77 million in donations for local nonprofits.
“When we launched ColoradoGives.org 18 years ago, we hoped it would make giving more accessible — and we’ve been humbled by what’s followed,” said Erica Thornley, vice president of product development at Colorado Gives Foundation. “Even when the world feels uncertain, Coloradans keep showing up to support the causes they care about.”
WalletHub’s 2024 report analyzed 17 indicators of charitable behavior across all 50 states and nationally, giving continues to grow. In 2023, Americans donated nearly $560 billion to charitable causes — and 67% of those gifts came from individual donors, according to Giving USA.
In Colorado, the impact is just as impressive. Nearly $720 million has been raised through ColoradoGives.org — with 670,000 donors stepping up to support local nonprofits since the platform launched in 2007. “That number represents more than dollars,” Thornley said. “It reflects a community that cares deeply — and that’s something to be incredibly proud of.” ColoradoGives.org has processed nearly four million donations for nonprofits across the state.
